HAMILTON – MPP Monique Taylor (Hamilton Mountain) is calling on Doug Ford to provide funding for more long-term care beds at Macassa Lodge:
“Families in Hamilton want high quality, not-for-profit long-term care homes. They have seen how for-profit homes have failed to keep residents safe and healthy throughout the pandemic. They know Ontario’s long-term care system was broken before COVID-19, and they want action to take profit out of their loved ones care.
That’s why it is sad and frustrating for families to see Ford prioritize for-profit long-term care companies, while denying municipally-owned Macassa Lodge the expansion our community needs. Families are tired of watching public money be siphoned away to for-profit long-term care companies’ profits, while their loved ones receive substandard care due to understaffing and cost cutting. Macassa Lodge is in dire need of provincial funding to add more, high quality long-term care beds. Ford should be responsive to our community’s needs and fund Macassa’s expansion.
Families in Hamilton Mountain need high quality, not-for-profit long-term care, where workers are treated fairly and each and every resident can expect at least four hours of hands on care each day. The Ontario NDP has a plan to rebuild Ontario’s homes and long-term care, including making sure we get profit out of long-term care. That’s what Hamiltonians deserve.”
