HAMILTON — Hamilton Mountain MPP Monique Taylor has released a statement responding to the Hamilton Wentworth District School Board's decision on Sherwood Secondary School.
"Congratulations to the Sherwood students, staff, and community on seeing option 2 adopted by the board. While we were hoping for option 1, the additional motion adopted by the board ensures that students will not be moved until construction is set to start.
Students and staff at Sherwood have already experienced so much disruption these past two years during the pandemic, and so they should not have to go through another disruption. I am glad to see staff and students are being prioritized in this process though and the repairs needed will finally be made.
It is unfortunate that Sherwood was put in this position at all; failings from the previous Liberal government and this current government left Sherwood, and so many other schools in Ontario, in a state of disrepair. This inaction has caused the cost of repairs to balloon over the years which is unacceptable. At the end of the day, the education of our next generation is critical, and we must be willing to invest in their future."
